Prototype
One machine. Your rules.
The smolit node is the local place for smolit, mesorium and laborium: compact, modular, and built on infrastructure you can run yourself.
As things stand: a prototype. No final parts list, no price, no delivery date. The node is not part of the test network — that is about software running on the machine you already have.
The problem
Software you control needs somewhere dependable to run.
A laptop is not a permanent server.
A self-built homelab, on the other hand, quickly becomes an IT project of its own: power, storage, networking, cooling, updates and services all have to be assembled separately.
The solution
The smolit node turns that into one local building block.
The smolit node is meant to bring compute, storage, networking and the somsorium stack together in one modular platform.
It is currently a prototype. Hardware selection, enclosure and build plan are being worked out step by step.
The idea
A kit, not a sealed box.
Reference base: Raspberry Pi OS Lite (64-bit). Control software and hardware documentation are published openly. The first version will be a kit to build yourself — repairable, modifiable, resellable. Anyone who needs the result rather than the build process should be able to get it assembled.
How this goes on
We are not deciding this on our own.
Enclosure, modules and expansion stages are not being settled at a desk. How and when people can help build them is something we will write about — and in the newsletter, if you subscribe to it.
For those who want the detail
What runs underneath.
- Reference base Raspberry Pi OS Lite (64-bit), reproducible system image
- Pre-installed smolit
- Updates as signed packages, checked against a built-in key
- Control software published as open source
- Expansion stages and final hardware selection still open
Where it stands
Where the node is.
Today
- The build pipeline is real and tested: reproducible system image, signed updates.
- One lab device exists.
Next
- The hardware selection and the enclosure.
- Managing several devices.
After that
- Parts list and build plan so others can rebuild it.
- Expansion stages and modules.
Runs smolit — and is your way into the whole loop. The same thinking applies to the lab modules in laborium.
Waitlist
Hear when the hardware is ready.
The smolit node is a prototype. No pre-orders and no deposits — the waitlist is how we let you know once there is something solid.
Non-binding, and not a guarantee of access.
